The Red Wolves own a 42-22 series lead over the Trojans. ASU is 7-3 against UALR in their last 10 meetings including splitting the two-game series last season. ASU beat UALR at the ASU Convocation Center on Jan. 5 77-62, but fell to the Trojans at the Jack Stephens Center 82-52.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves are 8-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference after beating FIU 61-41 in their league opener Thursday. Junior Donald Boone leads ASU with 12.3 points per game and leads the team with 16 steals. Eric McKinney is second on the squad scoring 8.9 ppg whil leading ASU with 6.9 rebounds per game (69 total) and has 21 blocked shots.
UALR opens its conference slate by hosting the Red Wolves on Saturday. The Trojans have gone 7-3 in their non conference schedule but have gone 2-3 in their last five games. In their contest, UALR pushed Memphis to the limit but eventually fell 59=51.
Sophomore guard Matt Mouzy leads UALR in total points while averaging 13.2 per game and leads the team with 14 steals. Junior forward Mike Smith leads the Trojans with 59 rebounds averaging 6.6 a game.
ASU is 8-9 in SBC road-openers dating back to 1991.
Much of ASU's early success this season has been due to the tough defense the Red Wolves have played. ASU has held opponents to a combined .363 shooting percentage, while holding eight of their 10 opponents to shooting under 38 percent from the field.
Missouri State was the only team to outrebound the Red Wolves this season.
